Change Your Style, Change Your Life

Lately, I've been noticing the style evolution of some of the women whose work I admire - Sophia Coppola, Billie Ellish, Michelle Obama, Kamala Harris.

The common threads are that they're uniquely themselves, embody confidence, and look comfortable in their own skin.

I've also noticed that their respective evolutions didn't happen overnight. Evolutions never do.

When I left the corporate world and transitioned to coaching, I had the hardest time knowing my style. Whether it was for a client meeting or the photo shoot for my first website, none of my clothes looked or felt quite right.

A few years later, as I found my footing in my work, I hired an amazing stylist who guided me through a process to help me define and elevate my style. I easily got rid of one-third of what was in my closet and bought some much-needed new pieces that felt like the best version of me.

The changes that had been happening to me internally could finally be expressed externally.

And I know this process works both ways. What we wear and how we wear it impacts how we feel inside. Want to feel more confident or smart or powerful? There's a way to sit, stand and dress that goes along with each of those feelings.

Perhaps you're looking to elevate your own personal style on behalf of your work? If so, I recently found Allison Bornstein's on Instagram (she has a fun TikTok account too). Her Three-Word Method helps you identify and express your personal style. It's super simple and an easy way to get started. This interview with Bornstein on the Who What Wear Podcast provides the framework to clean out your closet and do the Three-Word Method for yourself!

Do I think changing your style can change your life? Well yes, I think it helps. Here's to feeling even more comfortable in your own skin!
