Nerd Alert: Reading List

A newsletter subscriber recently asked for my book recommendations, specifically, the ones that inspire my coaching and finding meaning in my work and life. Thanks for the idea, Lori!

Nerd alert - it was hard to cull this list to a few. Here they are:

  • The Big Leap, by Gay Hendricks. This classic about overcoming limiting beliefs is the one I've recommended and given away the most. Everyone loves this book!

  • Playing Big: Find Your Voice, Your Mission, Your Message by Tara Mohr. Full of actionable ways to relate to our inner critic, overcome fear, and play bigger in our work and lives.

  • Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead, by Brene Brown. This feels like required reading for all.

  • Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success In A Distracted World, by Cal Newport. You already know I'm obsessed with Newport's work. Start here.

  • Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, by Angela Duckworth. Through research and real-world stories, Duckworth reminds us of the power of not giving up.

  • The War of Art: Break Through Your Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles, by Steven Pressfield. This one is on everyone's best of list for good reason.

  • The Creative Act: A Way of Being, by Rick Rubin. We're all creative and could benefit from some Rick Rubin wisdom.

  • Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life, by Anne Lamott. If you plan to do any sort of writing, this contains actionable advice wrapped in funny, heartwarming stories only Anne Lamott could share.

  • Purple Cow: Transform Your Business By Being Remarkable, by Seth Godin. Seth's is the only blog I read daily. He's that good. This book is one of his best.

  • Untamed, by Glennon Doyle. It's both a memoir and a call to action for female empowerment. I loved it.

  • Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way To Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones, by James Clear. The title says it all.

  • Wolfpack: How to Come Together, Unleash our Power and Change the Game, by Abby Wambach. A rallying cry for working together to make the world a better place.

  • Designing Your Life, by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans. If you're not sure what to do next in your career, this book, based on a popular class at Stanford, can help.

  • The Wisdom of the Enneagram, by Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson. If you're interested in exploring The Enneagram this book is a great tool to get started.

  • We Should All Be Millionaires: A Woman's Guide to Earning More, Building Wealth, and Gaining Economic Power,  by Rachel Rogers. I especially recommend this one on audiobook. You'll be inspired!

  • The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life, by Lynne Twist and Teresa Barker. If you're following your calling to your work, you'll need to unpack your relationship with money. This book helps.

  • Die With Zero, by Bill Perkins. In this book, Perkins advocates a unique perspective and advice for maximizing net fulfillment over net worth.

  • You Only Die Once: How to Make It to the End with No Regrets, by Jodi Wellman. Written by fellow coach and dear friend, this book comes out next week. Having seen some previews of her work, I know it will be great. And if you order by May 7 you'll get an invite to a live virtual book club event using this link: Hope to see you there!
