Celebrate Pride Month
Growing up in the 70's and 80's in a strict Catholic parish, I didn't know what gay meant. I know it sounds ridiculous now, but it's true.
I think about friends and classmates who had to hide who they were and the courage it took for them to come out. And I think about the countless others who have shared their story. There's a truth-telling that's contagious.
So as we celebrate Pride Month, here's recent work that moved and inspired me from some members of the LBGTQ+ community:
Abby Wambach's Commencement Speech at Loyola Marymount University where she reminds us to keep fighting for what's right.
The Design Matters Podcast, with Debbie Millman where she highlights the incredible work of creatives.
Ashley C. Ford's memoir, Somebody's Daughter, was my favorite book of the past year.
Roxanne Gay's TED Talk, Confessions of a Bad Feminist. While this was taped in 2015, I just recently discovered it. The title says it all!
Queer Eye - I love watching The Fab 5 support individuals in their personal transformation with humor, love, and compassion. While every episode is great, Season 7 Episode 3, Speedy for Life, is my all-time favorite!
I hope some of these inspire you too!
